This hotel was perfect for our needs. The location is super close to trains with plenty of shopping and restaurants. The hotel is a bit dated but clean and the room was spacious for Tokyo. We booked the 4th room that had 4 beds so our family of four was comfortable. There was also a sink right outside the bathroom as well as one in the bathroom. Staff was friendly and check-in/check-out was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is super close to the station. There’s only one escalator up to the reception but they will adjust the direction as and when required. No worries about that. Their staff are able to communicate in English which is a super plus point for us. Rooms were clean and rather spacious. They provide slippers and amenities. There’s an air purifier in the room. Have to really give our heartfelt thanks to the staff there. They are amazing, we had some medical emergency and they were really kind, helping us translate. Really wanna commend on their ability to understand our English and so kindly help us translate to the medical personals. They followed up with us after that to make sure we are comfortable. Pros Location English speaking staff Clean towels and sheets Family mart on the first floor Really best service from the staff over there ! Thank you so much !!

Very good location close to Ikebukuro station. A quiet hotel. No noises from inside or outside. Helpful and friendly staff who spoke English. Good room size. Lots of hot water in the shower and good water pressure. Comfy beds. The hotel provided a spray in the room with fragrance for clothes which also cleared out wrinckles. Used it every day! Very good AC in the room. There is a washing room with washing machine and dryer guests can use and a smoking room on the 1 st floor. Also 24/7 Family Mart on the 1st floor with ATM for international cards. I wish there could be more TV-channels on the TV or maybe Netflix. I will stay here again on my next trip to Tokyo.

Dai-Ichi Inn Ikebukuro - great location, close to the station, not great for scenery

We chose the Dai-Ichi Inn because of its very close proximety to the Ikebukuro Station, accessible easily by the JR Yamanote line, Tobu-Tojo line, and a host of other rail lines. The neighbourhood is loud and crowded, the hotel is down one back street from the main road. It also backs onto the rail lines which are maintained during the wee hours of the morning, so you can hear the squeal of steel work being done if you keep the windows open. Our view looked down onto a DVD store with a huge neon sign, so we kept the blinds closed. The beds were firm, the sheets were clean, and the room was not too small when compared to a Western hotel. The carpet was a bit thin in spots, we figured they'd moved one of the twin beds to make room for the additional roll-out bed we needed. The staff are friendly, helpful, super polite and well dressed. The semi-automated check-in/check-out process was easy to use. There is a restaurant in the hotel, however we did not use it. Ikebukuro is a huge hive of shopping, even just right above the JR station and the Tobu station, and Sunshine City is only a few blocks away. Again we chose the hotel for its location and not as a destination in itself. It definitely fulfilled its purpose.

Very good location (and that is the ONLY good thing)

The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the location. It’s very close to Ikebukuro Station and several malls, restaurants, food shops, convenience stores as well as the popular Sunshine 60 Street leading to Sunshine City (mall/entertainment center) I don’t know why this hotel lists wheel chair accessibility in their profile because it is not wheel chair/disability-friendly at all in its layout. You walk through the entrance and see a very narrow escalator that only goes one way. According to the time of day it either goes up or down. You have to use a spiral staircase in the back to go the other way or ask the reception to get the key and switch the escalator if you really are unable to use they staircase (example: with strollers or walkers) It’s very bothersome and impractical. The rooms are not very spacious, but that’s quite normal for Tokyo. However if you are rooming as a family of 4 or more you better make sure to reserve a bigger room/suite. We booked a casual twin room for us and our two toddlers and with two suitcases we could hardly turn around without bumping into each other or furniture. Speaking of the interior: it is very old and dated as well as worn down, not to say dirty at times. We usually put the two twin beds together to have one big family bed but the one night stand in between the beds was not movable at all and so we had to play a game of Tetris to have the beds together somehow. The bathroom was a tiny built-in plastic wet cell. You can sit on the toilet (that had a toilet seat not matching the shape of the toilet bowl - AWKWARD!) brush your teeth over the sink and have your feet in the bath tub at the same time. Not so practical if you are not of tiny size or pregnant like me. The worst thing regarding the room was the big opening between window and window-frame. You could easily shove a coin in between. This is an absolute no-go. Just imagine staying in that room during winter!! The overall feel was not very clean. I mean with two toddlers it can happen that they drop something and pick it off the floor (carpet) but picking up loads of thick black hairs (clearly not from us) with does leave us with an icky overall feeling. I think most of the guests are drawn to the hotel purely due to its location, not the rooms or anything else.
